Hypnosis
facts
Hypnosis is a
state of deep and profound relaxation where your mind, body and
emotions are in a state of peace and tranquility. It is in this state
that the subconscious mind can be accessed. The subconscious is without
the constraints of logic, space and time, and lying within it is wisdom
and healing strength that far exceeds our everyday capabilities.
Hypnosis
occurs in all of us naturally. This is when the usual relationship
between the deeper part of our mind and our conscious mind reconfigures
itself and the subconscious becomes more dominant. An example of this
might include those moments when you are driving along and suddenly you
realise you have been on autopilot for a period of time. Some people
may even forget part of the journey completely. If you cannot relate to
this example, then there may be other times, like when you become
completely absorbed in a book and time passes by quicker than expected,
or you are involved and completely absorbed in a task and you don't
notice the time pass by and people need to ask you something more than
once till you realise they are there. One final example may be
daydreaming. All of these examples may seem ordinary or common place
for you, and this is the point. For others, they might feel that they
have never had an experience like this, but in truth we all have these
kinds of experiences when our subconscious becomes more dominant.
Everyone can experience hypnosis.
When our
subconscious is more dominant, we are in a state of heightened
suggestibility. It is in this state the subconscious is more able to
accept suggestion and change without interference from the conscious
mind. It is also the state in which we are able to accept the healing
and wisdom the subconscious has to offer.
Despite the
deep contact you can have with your subconscious mind when you are
hypnotised, you are always awake, conscious and aware of what is
happening. You are also in control, so you can always allow your
conscious mind to censor, comment or criticise during the process. The
guiding voice of the hypnotherapist helps to focus your mind to achieve
a deeper level than what you would normally be able to access. Your
mind is free to achieve this task by handing over to the therapist.
Hypnosis is
so natural and safe that you go through the state of hypnosis every
time
you go to sleep and wake up. It is as easy to achieve a wonderful
hypnotic state as that.
